Thunder LE-T (S2518) FAQ Updated 07/08/03

  1. Is there TYAN System Monitor support for this system board?

Yes!  Please go to the following page for more details and software download.
    http://www.tyan.com/support/html/software_utilities.html

  2. Is there any BIOS upgrade precaution?

Please Promise Technology has released new BIOS for Promise FastTrak100 RAID for Large LBA specification for drive capacity (also known as 48-bit LBA). 48-bit LBA enables onboard Fastrak100 RAID to recognize HDD capacity above 137GB.

For Windows to recognize above 137GB capacity you MUST ALSO use Promise driver version 2.00.0.25 (or above). Without driver version 2.00.0.25 Windows will NOT recognize HDD above 137GB with Promise FastTrak100 RAID controller.

For Linux to recognize above 137GB capacity you MUST ALSO use Promise driver version 1.2.0.14 (or above). Without driver version 1.2.0.14 Linux will NOT recognize HDD above 137GB with Promise FastTrak100 RAID controller.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE UPDATED BIOS WILL NOT SUPPORT OLDER PROMISE DRIVERS (v.2.00.0.24 and below for Windows, v.1.2.0.14 and below for Linux). YOU MUST DO A CLEAN INSTALLATION OF OS WHEN IMPLEMENTING NEW PROMISE BIOS VERSION AND NEW PROMISE DRIVER VERSION.

Latest Promise drivers can be downloaded from this
    link.

  3. When I use two CPUs, why doesn't my board boot up?

Please check the LED as circled in the picture.
If it lights up, it is a warning that the two CPUs have different voltage.  Fix: use only the same voltage CPUs for dual-CPU mode.

  4. If I want to use PIII 256K L2 Cache CPU, is there any spcecial note?

Yes, the Thunder LE-T (S2518) only supports ONE PIII 256K L2 Cache CPU.  Please also see the special note about using single CPU below.

  5. If I want to use ONE CPU on this board, which socket should I use?

The socket to use when installing ONE CPU is indicated by the green circle.  This applies to all CPU types supported (PIII Coppermine, PIII 256K L2 Cache, PIII 512K L2 Cache).

  6. Where can I find a manual or a quick start guide for the raid that is on my S2518 motherboard?

The Promise Chip that is on this board is the Promise Fast Trak 100 chipset.  This chipset is equivalent to the FastTrak 100 adapter card.  The manual and quick start guide for that device can be found at the following weblink: here

  7. Where can I find Linux drivers for my Promise chip that is on this motherboard?

For the S2518, the onboard raid is equivilant to a Promise Fast Trak 100 stand alone card.  All Linux based drivers are designed, maintained and released by the manufacturer of that device.  Only by going to the source of that device will you get drivers or support for those drivers.  You can find the Promise Linux based drivers by going to the following weblink: here
